Why am I getting a rental increase?

Every year the Quebec Rental Board releases the allowable percentage increases for leases within certain areas of the province. This means that your rental increase percent in Westmount may not be the same as your friend’s rental increase percent in the Plateau.
The increases also depend on whether the apartment includes heating, electricity or other utilities. There are cases where the landlord can go above this percentage, for example if they have done significant work in the building.
